The classroom is still technically under construction, although I don't know that it will ever be finished! I am what they call a "perfectionist", and things are never quite good enough for me to stop making changes!! We purchased a table and chairs off of craigslist, to give Abbie a place to sit and write!
I also like that unlike a desk, I also have a place to sit across from her and teach her things on her level! The classroom setup above was only temporary! I found some awesome things on amazon that should be here tomorrow, and we needed to rearrange to give me more wall space! Fortunately Abbie has a very big bedroom, with an awesome window nook! We chose to make the window nook the classroom area!
The wall you can see has a board with the "Letter of the Week" and the "Number of the Week" posted, as well as the day of the week, date, weather, our address & phone number, and a clock that comes off the wall for Abbie to play with! I also put her bookshelf in the corner, because we will be making weekly trips to the library, and this will be a great way to keep those books with the "school center"!
I made a chalkboard out of chalkboard contact paper, and burlap craft ribbon! I love that it is flat to the wall, and re-positionable!! Above the chalkboard is Abbie's art display. I feel that I large part of learning is letting her get hands on, so we will be doing crafts often! This is actually a jump rope with clothes pins, and some wooden pieces painted and glued to the handles! I decorated the clothes pins with ribbon, paint, and buttons. I thought it would be a fun way to add to it!
I love that it will display a weeks worth of art, and then we will empty it and start over! She loves watching me pin up her craft when she is finished!
I have enjoyed putting the "classroom" together! It is still a work in progress! I ordered a manipulative calendar for Abbie, but when it arrived... it was cracked, so I sent it back!
